Commit All Possible Mistakes When They Are Affordable

We all make mistakes but, it really matters where we do this. There are places where your mistakes are forgiven and there are places where you are not expected to make a mistake. You cannot completely insulate you from making mistakes but, you can always make sure that your mistakes are committed under a forgivable environment, from which you can learn and be ready to solve new problems which are similar to problems you had met already.

I will brief this with an example. Imagine, you are a college student and you are asked to give a presentation on one of your interested subjects. While presenting, your professor finds out that the statistics you presented in the PowerPoint seems to be wrong. Will you be punished for this? Will this affect your image among your friends? Never. Your mistake is forgiven in that situation. It is affordable. Nobody is going to question you and punish you severely. Your institution is a place to make mistakes and learn from them.

Now, imagine a different scenario, where you are supposed to give a business presentation to your client and you commit an error in your statistics!!! I don't think this is affordable. You will have to pay a huge penalty for this mistake. This may affect your credibility and the reputation of your organization. Had you committed this mistake already, you wouldn't have committed it now. So, search for problems, commit mistakes at the earliest, when it is affordable.

Don't Cut The Cake Till The Last Guest Comes In

The success of any leadership lies in how good are we in getting a place in others' hearts. The way we treat and handle people in various situation counts. Only our actions can showcase our personality to others which in turn affects the relationship that people like to have with us. If your friends think you as a humble and approachable person, then it is more likely that they share everything with you without any hesitation. That approachable quality is essential in any leadership. If you lack this quality then you will fail to understand the real feelings of your people which will lead to a poor leadership.

Now, I am writing this post to emphasise on one particular quality that every leader should possess. This quality is the one which is going to differentiate you from the rest of the leaders. It is 'Respecting Individuality' or in other words, considering every individual around you as a precious gift. I would explain this to you with an example.

I can take an example of a small meeting. Let us say, you have called all your friends for a meeting and some of your friends are ready in front of you waiting for you to break the silence. But, one of your friends had already called you in phone and informed you that he would be late for the meeting because of some personal problems. What would you do now? Will you just start the meeting? NO, It is better not to start it immediately.  There are people out there who don't even come for the meeting. But, this guy has made all his efforts to make sure he is in the meeting. Spending one's time is not an easy task. He must have sacrificed something to come to your meeting. How are you going to show the gratitude? First choice should be to wait for him as that would demonstrate the way you treat him. Before deciding this, you may ask your friends who are waiting with you, if they are comfortable with the decision. If they are not, then it is good to call your friend who is on the way, and let him know the status of the meeting and apologise to him for starting the meeting before his arrival. This will demonstrate the respect you show towards him and your quality of considering each and every person as precious individual. Next time, if you schedule a meeting, I am sure, the person who comes late today will be the first to enter the meeting room.

This might seem to be simple and uninteresting. But, it teaches you a lot. Leaders are not people who are sitting at the top, being unreachable and giving directions to their fellow beings. But, they are people who are always available to each and every fellow beings in such a way that everybody should think that his/her leader is solely for him/her. I had already told you about this in one other post. This way of treating people is similar to a word called 'virtualization' in computer science. Virtualization means, a system which handles millions of people would behave extremely personalised to each and every user in such a way that every user would think that the system had been made only for him/her. An ATM can be taken as an example. Leaders are people who will make their team think that they are only for them...!

I Understood Why My Teacher Asked Me To TakeUp Initiatives

When I was in my college my teacher always insisted us to organize some functions periodically. She asks us to give opportunity to everyone in the class. The turn comes to each and everyone and during his/her turn, one has to lead the entire class in achieving something together as a team, like organizing functions or completing a technical project together. Those days we did everything without knowing the fruitful results that they would bring us in our future. We knew that it would be useful for us but now, I am sure all of my friends would have seen the benefits in front of their eyes. Taking up initiatives looks easier than it actually is. When you do something on your own you are exposed to problems and you will be pushed to situations to solve those problems by your own thereby learn lessons for your future.

When I took up my first initiative of organizing a function, there was a big fight among us just for choosing a name for the function. It killed a couple of days in solving this problem itself. Now I know how to start and what to avoid. Next time, for my second initiative, I will not do the same mistake. This is how we need to learn. We need to keep on refining our methodologies in handling problems. As days pass, the lessons should add up to our methodology and make it as perfect as possible. I will tell a simple example. When you organize an activity, the key success of the activity lies in the delegation process. You, as a leader, should be very careful in choosing people to assign appropriate task to them. You cannot give me a design work just like that. I will not do it. I have interest in computer maintenance. I will do it more efficiently than the design work. I learnt the art of assigning tasks to appropriate persons from my college functions where I use to assign it perfectly as I knew my friends personally well. If one is good in drawing and passionate about it, I assign the art work and the design part of the activity. If he is good in photography I give him an opportunity to do a video documentation of the activity. If a guy is good in speaking and bargaining, I send him to buy all the items for the activities there by I can reduce the cost of conducting the activity. This is how management works. Simple!

If you look deep into this, you can see that, everybody gets a challenging task, which is something bigger than what actually they do usually. They will have a satisfaction of work and they will not lose their spirit till the end of the activity. I can complete the activity successfully. Win-win situation! There are lots and lots of lessons to be learned from this. Those are hidden lessons to be explored by you. It can be explored only if you take up an initiative and start to lead! All the best!

Did You Note Down The Blood Bank Number From Yesterday's Newspaper?

Usually when we read newspaper, we just read the news and trash the paper forgetting the valuable information that it possesses. Tricks to solve problems, important emergency contact numbers, health care information, information about free education, government policies etc and the list goes on. We never bother about them but when a problem knocks our door, we realize our mistake but it would have been too late. Here, I want to emphasize the importance of developing contacts. In other words, a leader should know as many people as possible. A leader has to decide on whom to contact in period of emergency. Emergency doesn't blow whistle before it comes. We need to be ready with our precautionary measures.

People have an attitude of negligence until they meet with the problem. Especially people in India never think about precaution but are happy to face the problems and suffer. In case your friend meets with an accident and you are on the spot. Whom do you contact? Alright! It is a common issue which most of us meet, so, you would know. Alright, I will give you one other situation. Suppose you face corruption in a government or private office. How are you going to tackle this? Do you know whom to contact? Ok A bit more difficult situation... Suppose you fight for your rights at a railway station. Do you know the latest policies by the railways that would speak for you in that situation? Do you have any railways rule list in your brain to threaten your opponent? There are lots and lots of problems are around us. We may not when they would come to us and trouble us. We need to be aware of all the ways through which we
can manage the problems, if not solve them!

Any new contacts today?!!!

Who Said Personality Development doesn't mean Physical Fitness?

-->

-->

When I say personality development, people perceive it as improving one’s soft skills and leadership skills. But, there is something more than these. Personality development also includes one’s physical status too. It is a combination of physical and mental health. I uphold the importance of physical fitness since mental fitness relies on physical fitness. Of course this is a bit more than the cliché, “Sound mind is sound body”.

When you lack physical strength, you will lack the most essential quality that each and every young mind should possess. Without this quality an individual cannot lead or he cannot be a leader. That is ‘confidence’. Try this activity if you had not tried it before. Work out in a gym daily and analyze yourself after a couple of weeks. You will definitely feel the difference that it would make in you. You will feel the increase in confidence level. You will walk confidently inside your office without minding about what your colleagues would think about your appearance. You will know that you will look better than before. You will feel the increase in strength while giving a firm hand shake to people and would feel proud of your strength when people say, “Hey your hands are rough”. You will feel the freshness in your face. Everything adds up to your confidence which in turn reflect in the productivity of your personal and professional life.

Permanent happiness never comes to you without pain. Get up early in the morning. Start to work out from tomorrow! Keep the spirit alive always!

If You Wait For Someone To Help You, You Will Not Stop Waiting

When I was a child I saw people helping each other during adverse situations which included monetary and moral support. Even now I remember the innocence in the faces of all my relatives and friends. We never bothered to visit a relative’s house and disturb him anytime asking for help. They were ready to help with open arms. But, as time passed, things changed. I can see the change in attitude of the people and the disappearance of the innocence which was lighting their faces. This experience is not only for me but also for everybody in and around me, including you, the reader of this article.

Now, getting things done from someone has become a quite difficult task. People started to expect a lot in return for their help. We cannot blame them since the economic condition is so bad which leads them to such a situation. They have their own busy schedules, and commitments. Getting someone’s time has become difficult, unlike olden days, when people enjoyed the days together no matter how close they are with each other.

As a leader, the lesson I want you to learn from this is, try to do most important works by yourself rather than relying on someone else. After all, you are not going to pay them for their time and effort for you. Don’t be disappointed by this statement. Time and Effort are scarce resources nowadays!
